St. George's Outreach Ministries will have a threefold focus for 2008: 1. Crumbs from the Table: Co-ordinators: Susie Sangster and George Henaut
St. George's is promoting this worthwhile program in Pictou County, (a new registered charity which originated in Antigonish by two Anglicans, Jean and Linton Harrison). The project is governed by a Board of Directors which presently includes Bishop Sue Moxley. Their objective is to place collection boxes in restaurants, inviting the patrons to donate a portion of what they have just spent on a meal to help alleviate world hunger. The donations will support such organizations as Primate's World Relief and Development, the Stephen Lewis Foundation. Administrative expenses will be kept to a minimum.
2. a) Help Lesotho is a non-govermental organization that was founded in 2004 by Dr. Peg Herbert. This organization is made up primarily of Canadians, working to help the country of Lesotho which is located in the southern region of Africa. The main priority for the organization is to prevent the spread of HIV. Lesotho has the 3rd highest rate of infection of this disease. 2b) The Leprosy Mission Canada provides care and support to leprosy patients in many parts of the world, concentrating on India, Bangladesh, and Nigeria. Leprosy can be cured!

Christmas at St. George's: A New Project
At St. George's Anglican Church, New Glasgow, plans have already begun for Christmas 2008. This Christmas the church family will cook a turkey dinner with all the trimmings on December 25 for individuals of the community who would otherwise be alone or who may be working on that special day and would therefore not have time to cook and enjoy a festive meal. The meal will be served in the church hall which will be decorated for the occasion. The organizers point out that their potential guests are not the needy of the community who have various agencies that help to provide them with a Christmas dinner. Free tickets will be distributed to those individuals who wish to attend.
The project falls under St. George's evolving Outreach Ministries that seeks ways to reach out to the community. St. George's mission statement inspired a prayer for the church that concludes with: "Challenge us to share within our Church Community and beyond, the gifts and talents You have given us". Judy Fitzpatrick is the co-ordinator of the dinner project; Donnie Wadden is the chief chef.
